Overview

Girls with their robot projects. The Great Lakes Girls Collaborative Project (GLGCP) will connect state affiliates of national educational equity-oriented organizations and the small organizations that are already implementing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) related projects for girls in the region.

We will build on our relationships with state affiliates of the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity, Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education, National Association of Black School Educators, National Association for Multicultural Education, National Association for Bilingual Education, American Indian Science and Engineering Society and similar organizations.

By connecting state affiliates and small organizations, GLGCP will provide additional opportunities for collaboration and increase access to STEM-related projects.

Host Organization

The Programs for Educational Opportunity (PEO), funded through the US Department of Education and the Civil Rights Act, provides civil rights and equal educational opportunity consulting and technical assistance to schools and school districts in federal region V (MN, WI, MI, IL, IN, OH).

Through training and technical assistance, PEO helps schools and districts find ways to increase the population of females and students of color in the pipeline that leads to STEM careers.

As the leader for the GLGCP we plan to leverage our existing networks and activities to create effective collaboration in the region.

Partner Organizations

To assure broad involvement across the five-state region, two other organizational partners will lead GLGCP efforts.

The Minnesota effort will be co-led by the MN State Colleges, Universities, and Department of Education. They will provide essential connections and leadership to help extend the reach of our work throughout the state of Minnesota.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction served as the lead organization of the Wisconsin Girls Collaborative Project from 2004-2006 and will provide essential connections and leadership to help extend the reach of that work to the other states of the Great Lakes region.
