Barbara O’Connor

Barbara O’Conner has been president of the American Association University Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation since 2005. She joined AAUW in 1979 while in San Juan, Puerto Rico and has been an active volunteer for the Educational Foundation as a contributor, fundraiser, branch Educational Foundation chair, and Educational Foundation chair on the board of AUWW of Florida. She served as co-president and chair of several board committees.

A native of Illinois, Ms. O’Connor became a world traveler after her graduation from the University of Illinois with a degree in secondary social studies education. She lived abroad for nearly 27 years in South Carolina, Maryland, New York, Florida, Singapore, Malaysia, Lebanon, Panama, and Puerto Rico working as an educator. Over the years, Ms. O’Connor has remained active in educational issues as co-president of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and is a member of many organizations, including UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women) and the Florida Women’s Consortium.
