History Link

HistoryLink is an evolving online encyclopedia of Seattle and King County history. It is being written on and for the Internet to establish a new baseline history in anticipation of the 2001-2002 sesquicentennial of the establishment of Seattle and King County, Washington, USA. 

Washington State History Day

Washington History Day is a statewide competition for students in grades 6-12 who are interested in improving their historical knowledge in a fun and challenging environment. This site also includes links to additional Washington State history resources (not annotated).

Washington State Historical Society: Education

The Washington State Historical Society offers a variety of educational services to the schools and educational institutions of Washington State. Links to a variety of resources including teaching materials, history boxes and more.  Make sure you check out the online activities available from the History Lab

 


National and International Resources

Center for History and New Media

The Center produces historical works in new media, tests the effectiveness of these products in the classroom, and reflects critically on the promises and pitfalls of new media in historical practice.  A rich collection of Web pages provide electronic access to extensive directories, journals, sources, and professional discussions related to historical issues. 

Of particular interest:

History Matters: The U.S. Survey Course on the Web is directed at teachers of the U.S. History Survey course at the college and high school level. The site offers resources for survey instructors including: model teaching assignments; primary documents in text, image, and audio; an annotated guide to relevant Web sites; sample syllabi; and moderated discussions about teaching U.S. history. 

The Digital Classroom

Primary Sources, Activities, and Training for Educators and Students. The Digital Classroom provides materials from the National Archives and methods for teaching with primary sources. 

Teaching the Journal of American History

Teaching the JAH uses online tools to bridge the gap between the latest scholarly research in U.S. history and the practice of classroom teaching. JAH authors demonstrate how featured articles might be taught in a U.S. history survey course. Resources include the full article, supplementary resources and links to related Web sites.

History and Theory

History and Theory is an international journal devoted to the theory and philosophy of history. It also manages a discussion network, and sponsors an informational e-mail list. 

National Council for History Education

Non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting the importance of history in schools and in society.

Organization of American Historians

Founded in 1907, the Organization of American Historians (OAH) is the largest professional society dedicated to the teaching and study of American history. Publishers of the Journal of American History (accessible online for members) and the Magazine of History (some articles accessible online).
